Via Webinar Only - Recording of session available to those that cannot attend the live session.

Description

This session introduces core concepts around how chronic stress and overwhelming experiences impact the brain and body, with a focus on how these effects show up in both patients and providers. Participants will explore the biological basis of stress responses—such as fight, flight, freeze, and fawn—and how these instinctive reactions can influence behavior, communication, and care dynamics.

The session emphasizes the importance of context in interpreting patient behaviors, encouraging a shift from “What’s wrong with this person?” to “What might this person be reacting to?” This perspective fosters greater empathy and reduces the risk of misinterpreting stress-based behaviors as noncompliance or resistance.

Finally, the session offers practical, evidence-informed strategies for managing stress and supporting emotional well-being in clinical settings. These approaches are geared toward enhancing emotional regulation, reducing reactivity, and helping to prevent burnout.

Key Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the psychobiology of stress and trauma that contribute to some of the puzzling behaviors and feeling that dominate us.

2. Develop a shared understanding and language of stress and trauma

3. Provide guiding principles and practical tools to support wellness at work
