Description

Workplace violence is a growing concern across healthcare settings, and rural teams often face these situations with limited staff, resources, and immediate support. In these moments, safety depends on more than individual response—it requires early recognition, shared awareness, and coordinated team action.

This foundational session introduces a simple, practical framework — SEE, SHARE, SUPPORT — to help teams recognize risk early, communicate effectively, and respond together in situations where safety may be at risk.

Designed for clinicians, leaders, and educators, this session moves beyond traditional de-escalation training to focus on how teams’ function in real time. Participants will explore how small, early actions can significantly impact outcomes, using concepts such as the 10-5-2 rule to build awareness and connection, and Distance = Time & Time = Options to support safer decision-making.

Through case-based discussion and realistic scenarios, participants will work through common situations and identify practical strategies they can bring back to their teams to improve communication, coordination, and safety.

This approach draws from evidence-based practices in workplace violence prevention, team communication, and human factors in healthcare.

This session can also serve as a foundation for deeper, team-based simulation training to further practice and apply these skills in a hands-on environment.
