This one-hour session will cover neonatal care in the emergency department.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the neonatal time period and review physiologic baseline vital signs in the neonate.
  • Identify the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) role on the transport team.
  • Describe specialized equipment specific to the neonate in the emergency department.
  • List basic neonatal resuscitation and stabilization fundamentals essential to the care of all neonates.
  • Describe components of a thorough neonatal history and assessment.
  • Define common complications seen in the neonatal period and the initial treatment strategies. 
  • Utilize the pneumonic THEMISFITS to enhance recall.

This workshop is designed to meet the continuing education requirements for the MN Board of Nursing.. It is the responsibility of the attendee to determine whether these activities meet the current criteria for continuing education.
