Description

Swing Bed is an important program and revenue source for most Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs).  However, the regulatory requirements for swing bed are often not clear to staff and providers.

The presentation will review the current conditions of participation (CoPs) in Appendix W, interpretive guidelines in Appendix PP, and applicable Minnesota State standards.

A review of admission criteria, pre-admission processes, patient required disclosures, interdisciplinary assessment, development of the interdisciplinary plan of care, documentation, and discharge processes will be discussed.

The presentation will also discuss discipline-specific responsibilities and approaches to working as a team.

Key Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the Medicare criteria for admission to a swing bed.
  2. Outline required patient admission, continued stay, and discharge disclosures.
  3. Describe the interdisciplinary assessment and plan of care, and why it’s essential.
  4. Discuss at least three (3) strategies for working as a team.
  5. Identify at least three (3) standards in Appendix PP that apply to swing bed.
