Description: Whether you have in-house MRI or use a contract service, it is important for technicians and other staff to have a better understanding of how they can assist the patient and/or MRI tech during diagnostic imaging. This includes preparing the patient, answering questions, watching for potential problems, etc.
Objectives: Upon completion of this workshop the attendee should be able to:

  • Outline the uses and relative advantages/disadvantages of MRI compared with other modalities
  • Describe the fundamental basis of MRI and the basic hardware components of an MRI system
  • Outline MRI safety issues in relation to the basic hardware of an MRI system
  • Identify the main contraindications for an MRI exam and thoroughly screen a patient
  • Understand the basic physics of MRI, and types and uses of pulse sequences involved
  • Understand how MRI contrast and image quality are affected by MR parameters
  • Identify uses and risks of MRI contrast agents
  • Understand the role of the MRI technologist in relation to other personnel in the MRI setting
